An Introduction to Pup Play: Out of the Barkness!
“Pup play” is rapidly growing in popularity, especially within the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and for good reason. This form of role-play invites participants to temporarily escape the human condition and enter a space where anxieties, fears and day-to-day responsibilities give way to belly scratches, toys, and praise. It’s a dog’s life! This workshop will be led by pup icon Tosa Alphainu (Pup International 2019, Pup Montreal 2017, and author of the “Puppy Play Book”). We will discuss some basic questions, including: What is pup play? Why would I want to be a pup? Is it always about sex? What is “headspace”? What is a handler? How do I stay safe? How do I get started? Do I need special gear? There will be a general Q&A session, and demonstrations by Pup Jake! Phillip Joy, PhD, Assistant Professor, MSVU, will also be on hand to discuss his current academic research into the pup community, including how participation in pup play shapes and influences body image. A pup play area with mats will be available for those who want to try pupping out! Everyone is welcome.   Admission is free; however, attendance is limited, and we do ask that you register in advance. Registration is available on EventBrite.

Pride March
We are calling on the community to mobilize in support of gender affirming care at this year's annual Pride March. Gatekeeping, limited coverage, inaccessible care, and long wait times have stopped Nova Scotian's from getting the life-saving care that they need. While some supports and coverage exists for those seeking gender affirming care in Nova Scotia, current policy does not do nearly enough. This is a crisis and we call on the community to meet at Province House as we march through downtown Halifax to show their support for expanded gender affirming care in Nova Scotia and beyond. The 1km route will end at Peace & Friendship Park, where we will observe and take part in a Candlelight Vigil. We encourage attendees to bring signs or join us at the Sign Making event just prior at the Garrison Grounds where we will have sign making supplies on site. Bring your voice as we reconnect in support of much needed reform.

Queer IRL Panel
Have you recently come out and/or learned some new things about your identity? Are you feeling unsure of where you may fit? Do you have questions about how to build 2SLGBTQIA+ community spaces? Do you feel overwhelmed by online spaces and digital discourse? All of these feelings/questions/thoughts are super welcome and encouraged at out upcoming Queer IRL Panel! You’re invited to talk about the complexities, magic, and bumps of navigating queer community IRL. Join us Friday July 22nd at 7pm at the John W. Lindsay YMCA. Hear from youth in our local community, ask questions, learn with each other (along with some time just to chat and snack!). We are hoping that this space can feel like a warm welcome to new connections, perspectives, friendships, and community spaces! No registration is required. In our aim to create the most accessible spaces possible, The Youth Project continues to uphold a mask mandate at our programs to support our attendees and staff. A quiet space and active listener will be available to participants during the event. The Youth Project strives to create spaces that affirm and meet participants' access needs. If you require additional support or have questions about the event, please reach out to our Youth Board Co-Chair Hanley at mailto:youthboard@youthproject.ns.ca or send us a DM!
